Q - What’s your name, where are you from & what have you been up to?

A - Hey, I’m Vuhri from Halle, Germany. Lately I’ve been making a lot of music. I’ve been feeling super inspired, mostly because I’ve recently been doing a lot of digging. To actually get me out of my little cave for once, I hit up a flea market not long ago – ended up grabbing a ring, a chain and some nice records.

 

Q - Can you describe the sound of VUHRI in 1 sentence?

A - A nostalgic forward-thinking blend of 90s–2000s garage and melodic house, shaped by deep sound design and modern flair.

 

Q - Why do you produce the music that you do?

A - Besides the insane variety within the genre, I really love the history behind it – the way it came up, the DJs that pushed it forward, and the community that’s been built around it. The scene shows a lot of love and support.

 

Q - What inspired you when making the “Night Source EP”?

A - These tracks are actually from my archive, like 1–2 years back, when I was still experimenting a lot. Back then I was super into the contrast between old-school drums and how they’re mixed today – comparing sounds, samples and techniques across eras. That phase really helped shape my understanding of the genre.

 

Q - What was your favourite track to make from the EP & why?

A – “Buttercookie”. That one’s a bit older – I was chilling on my couch for hours, trying to recreate some grooves, test some new bass presets and mess around with different FX. That’s what came out, and when I heard the first drop, I was like, 'Yeah, that’s it.'

 

Q - What’s a reference track you used when making part of the EP?

A - Around that time, I was listening to a lot of Main Phase and really focused on how he mixed his drums and created that dark atmosphere. The way he uses all those classic organs in his productions is super inspiring.

 

Q - What are your plans for the future?

A - Focus more on developing my own sound, working on original tracks. Got some sessions with rappers and singers coming up soon – excited to see what comes out of it. And maybe play less Mario Kart with my girlfriend. I always end up getting smoked.
