A CHAT W/ Cameron Fairy
Share
Cameron Fairy is no stranger to Transistor and is probably all over your feed dropping elite music production knowledge. This time, he is letting the music do the talking
LA-based, British-American producer and hungry up-and-comer Cameron Fairy wants to connect the dots between his heritage and pay his part into the global takeover of UK music culture, with this project being massively influenced by his deep passion for early 2000s garage.
This 2-tracker explores those influences, from bubbly 4x4 emotional but energetic garage to a deep-groove-led, Reese-bass-orientated stomper.
And with that, we get to know a bit more about what he is up to:
Q – What is your fascination with UKG & why?
A – I have a dual-cultural background; I’m both British and American and spent time between both countries growing up. I found that producing garage allowed me to connect the dots between musical expression and my personal identity.
Q – Can you describe your sound in 1 sentence?
A – Raw, high-energy fusion of UK-influenced speed garage and hardgroove techno, gritty drums, and rave-driven emotion, sounds best around 140 bpm.
Q – What inspired you to make this project & why?
A – I blend both garage and hardgroove records at shows; this project fills the gap between the two genres.
Q – What is your favourite part of the track & why?
A – The second verse in 'Get Me Down' is mental. The build creates a load of suspense before a cinematic false drop. It's unexpected, and always crazy to see the reaction when played live.
Q – What 2 artists could relate to this track the most & why?
A – Stylistically, it sits in that sweet spot between hardgroove and garage, similar to Mall Grab. Emotionally, I could imagine DJ Heartstring using similar vocal samples. I really admire the work of both those artists.
Q – What can someone expect to hear from you in the future?
A – I spent the first half of 2025 producing speed garage and the second half producing hardgroove. Following this project, you can expect to hear more hardgroove cuts and tracks that blend characteristics of both genres.
