A CHAT W/ ance.

A CHAT W/ ance.

Q - Introduce yourself; where are you from?

A - I'm Ant, AKA ance., a producer and DJ living in South London. My sound is a hard-hitting hybrid of Breaks and UKG, heavily driven by breakbeat drums and deep, heavy basslines.

Q - Tell us about your track on WIRED Vol.2

A - Flashing Highs is a bit more experimental and left-field compared to my usual stuff and has some 140 influences thrown in there. I definitely didn’t sit down with the intention of making something like that; it ended up taking a very different direction, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I just ran with it and ended up really happy with how it turned out.

Q - How are you able to produce at the rate you are so consistently?

A - I do produce a lot of music 😂, but no one can say I don’t put the hours in. I’m definitely guilty of starting new tunes instead of finishing old ones, but there’s something exciting about the possibility of the next one being ‘the one.’ I still feel like I’m learning, and I’m confident my best tracks are ahead of me. It’s also easy to get caught up in the technical side of things, overthinking and overcomplicating tracks, especially when it comes to mixdowns. The truth is, I genuinely enjoy producing and always look forward to it, and that really is the key (as cliché as it sounds). It has to be something you care about—if you enjoy it, then it’s not a chore, and that’s what keeps me motivated and consistent.

Q -Where do you see yourself in the future as an artist, and what are your goals for the next few years?

A - I genuinely have no idea, to be honest. Last year was really positive, and I saw some great growth. I feel like people are starting to recognise my edits now, but I really want to focus on original music this year. If I keep going down this path, I’m hopeful I’ll be in a good place. Right now, I’m just concentrating on making good music, building positive connections, and putting in the effort. I do think luck plays a big part in this game as well, but ultimately, it’s about staying consistent, and I’m excited to see where that takes me.

Q - What would you say to other emerging artists who are considering being part of projects like WIRED?

A - Releasing on a Various Artists (VA) album is definitely good for emerging artists. It offers you exposure and connects you with other like-minded artists in the scene. It brings together artists at different stages, which can open up opportunities for collaboration and support. Smaller artists, in particular, are always ready to support each other and show love.

Q - What is your favourite track from another artist on WIRED Vol. 2 & why?

A - If I had to pick just one, I’d go with Ziggy’s – “Here We Go.” But I also think Native – “Two Six” deserves a mention; it’s so clean and a style that I’m really feeling at the moment. Al Daly – “BBY” also had to be loaded onto my USB—it’s such a bumpy, feel-good track.
